I've come to the conclusion that I need to get myself some lessons.
I've done some time with books and videos but I think I've come as far as I can without somebody sitting there telling me what I'm doing wrong (or right!).
Anybody out there know of any steel teachers in the Cleveland, OH area? |

Rick Troyer gives lessons in Sugarcreek, OH at Hummingbird Music. He's a great teacher.
Jerry Brightman, as Jim mentioned, is a great steel player and lives in the Cuyahoga Falls area. I don't know whether he gives lessons or not.
Chick Donner is even closer to your area but I'm not sure whether he gives lessons or not. He's very knowledgable.

Thanks guys for recomending me..but, I really just don't have the time to give lessons, and wished I did. I can highly recomend Rick Troyer, as stated above. YOU WILL LEARN A GREAT DEAL FROM HIM.

Thanks Kevin, wow, Valley Music! That's where I took my very first lessons on bass when I was a kid! That takes me back.
It's funny, but I think that I saw my first steel guitar in that store. I had no idea even what it was back then, only a vague notion that had something to do with country music (I was into rock and jazz back then...)
I think it was a ShoBud with metal necks...but it's been a while...that was something like 1979 or so. I remember even back then thinking that the playing card theme was cool.
And Jerry, thanks for the second recommendation for Rick Troyer.
I figured you HAD to be too busy to be giving lessons, what with building steels these days... |
