Does anyone know what kind of steel and amp Sneaky Pete played on the Flying Burrito Bros. recordings?

Guitar is a Fender 400 single 8 string and the amp is a Fender Twin Reverb.

Pete has 10 or 11 pedals on that Fender 400.
I don't remember if he has any knee levers. I think his tuning is Bb-6th.

pete has 9 pedals and 2 knees (ll and rr) so he can use both feet on the pedals of his customised fender 400 8 string that has 3 pickups. every time i saw him he was playing through 2 peavy session 400s

Sneaky let me check out his Fender 400 years ago. As I recall, it had a really nice doily glued to the front. What a nice guy. I was playing an Emmylou record during set up and while playing along for fun, he blew me away with his country playing. Very unexpected and very cool.

Stan, I've worked on the old Fender a couple of times in the last few months adjusting etc. Dan Dugmore brought it out for Pete via air from San Francisco. We have a photo that is going on our web-site in a few days under photo gallery. According to Dan it's the only guitar he can play. It has lots of electronics such as a chorus unit and lots of switching for different tones and distortion. Knee levers have been added and it's still all cable.
I'll let you know when we get our photo on the site. It's funny how the greats make what they have work without getting distracted by other things as Lloyd said in a recent post.

Thanks for the info guys. I've always liked the tone Pete gets, and was curious about his equipment.

Stan, Photo is on site now. My friend from N.C. Carlton Moody produced and plays with Pete in Burrito Supreme and this is the guitar he uses. Thanks, Jeff

That has to be the guitar Pete bought from me when we started working together in 1962.
We started a new job in Escondido, CA and Pete didn't have a guitar. I loaned my 400 to him. He took it home and brought it back, looking like a porcupine. I think it had 8 pedals at that time.
When I moved on to another job he didn't have much choice but to buy it from me. Pete is a real talent. He played stuff that you would not expect to hear on a steel. He came to work one night and said "I heard this on the Lawrence Welk Show", then took off on "Old Calcutta" like I never heard it played before. AWESOME....JD
