Who was the steel player through almost all of the George Jones 50 Yrs. of Hits Show. Up front whoever it was did a fantastic job, had that Derby singing. I just watched that show last night at 12 midnight on our local PBS station. Very classic steel work, and of all things they had the steel where you could hear him well. Great job to the producers too!!!!!!!

Will,
That was the incomparable Paul Franklin playing his Franklin D-10 on the SoundStage George Jones 50 Years of Hits special for 90% of the show. There were also two other steel players. Alan Jackson used his road band (so sorry I don't recall AJ's steel players name) and Tanya Tucker used her steel player Kevin Owens on his Sho-Bud Permanent that used to belong to Jimmy Day. Pretty dang cool axe.
I was fortunate to be the audio designer for that show and had a great surprise when Paul walked into the theater for the taping. I was completely blown away by his playing during the two days of rehearsals and two days of taping.
I know you can buy the show on DVD and I think it's available either through your local PBS station or by calling 1-866-DVD-INHD.
Glad you enjoyed the show, I'll pass along your compliment to the producer.
