I just had a call from a woman seeking a female pedal steel player for Los Angeles area gigs and recording. I don't know of any, anyone out there able to help me with this referral?

To any would-be female steelers: please contact me. And if you want lessons for E9, see my notice under For Sale: Music, Lessons, etc. I've taught a few gals in the past, they were great students, but drifted off after a small number of lessons. I'd love to get more women up and running on the instrument, the world needs you!

Good idea, David, that is one of my next steps. I think I met the one you're referring, haven't heard her play but she was a cutie and great dancer at one of the Western Swing Society's final parties.

Anyone else have leads?

It may be politically incorrect to discuss male and female differences, but there are some relevant ones here. One would think playing steel might appeal to women, because it requires very subtle and dextrous hand control - and they are better at that than men. Also, it requires less fretting-hand strength than a regular guitar, doesn't require large hands, and doesn't require the painful break in time to build up finger-tip callouses, things women sometimes complain about. On the other hand, lugging these heavey beasts around, along with the larger amps they require is probably unappealing to women (for that matter men don't like that aspect either).
