Hi Jelle!
Yeah, that's a great song, written by Lefty Frizzell and Sanger D. ("Whitey") Shafer. Your version sounds great, but I don't know who the singer is...?
Lefty of course recorded it, I also have versions by Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard and Dick Curless.
A beautiful ballad, that's for sure!
Kind Regards, Walter

"Whitey" wrote another verse for the Kieth Whitley recording which it needed. Mike Johnson nailed a great solo on the Singletary cut and Paul Franklin set a standard on Kieths cut.Lefty had the original and the Hag made us all do the song.I have never heard the Dick Curless recorded version But he did do it with us "Live" at Mountain Park with that super great deep baritone voice. One of those favorite songs that will last and eventually be re-recorded.

Jelle, sounds like a young Hag, but I have the one that he recorded last and this is not it. I believe the favorite of mine would have to be Gene Watson's version, with Buddy on steel and produced by Ray Pennington. Fabulous in any case. Thanks for sharing.

I have 9 versions of this song including most of those listed above as well as Mark Chestnutt, Trace Adkins, Kenny Seratt and Benny Berry.
American boy who did most all of his recording in Ireland. Couldn't make it in the States for some reason.

I like Daryle Singletary's version too. I love everything on that CD. Traditional tunes (mostly) with state-of-the-art recording. The way Mike Johnson goes from low to high and back down and then when you think it's over he flows down some more. That is the stuff (to me).
