Hello
I wonder if anyone of you have an album by "The Farewell Party Band" with (Tiny) Olson on steel. The album was called "Country Plus"-BRW records.
It has a tune written by him called "Beg for it".Is that a steel instrumental? Or has he other tunes on this LP where he plays instrumental? I know he sing at least one too.Hope someone can answer this,I have a copy on hand, but can`t check it since it is sealed.
Best from Egil.

Man, I didn't think there were too many of those albums out there. I'm glad you got one. Now that I think about it, I guess we did sell a fair number of them out on the road.

We were getting ready to do the band album and Gene wanted me to do an instrumental. I made up "Beg For It" in a few minutes at a dancehall in Oklahoma and we worked it up on the spot during sound check. When we got back to Nashville the next time we cut the band album including that song. Personally, I was never crazy about the tune, it's title or the cut. The producer didn't let Larry Booth, our bass-man cut loose and boogie on the cut as Larry and I would have liked. But the producer is the man in charge and his word is final. We did the song (and many on that album) in one or two takes. The album was, overall a very fun project. It was very good of Gene to get it done too. His using us on his own recordings was really something special for me.

The tune I sang on the band album was a Downchild Blues Band song called, "Shotgun Blues." We also did "Farewell Party" in a ballad / swing version as an instrumental.

Hope this helps Egil.

Hi Joe... I hope you're well my friend.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

Tiny Olson - a "musicians musician"! For those that DON'T know him, he's not just a "super" picker, he's every bit a "super" guy... Jimmie

Thanks for your kind words. I know I always looked forward to hearing you play and visiting with you whenever we got up to the Opry in Nashville, Indiana for a show. You always sounded great.

You're a dang good horse Jimmie. I hope you are well my friend.

If I'm not mistaken, it was a good sized place in Ponca City. I could be wrong about the town and this particular club. But we most certainly did play there (Ponca City)too. I can picture the place in my mind but can't recall the name.

Over the years we played so many big halls in Ok. and Texas. I do remember that the place was slightly wider than it was long from the perspective of the bandstand. The band stand was also multi-level.

Any ideas ?? Thanks.

I'm not really familiar with any of the dancehalls that were in Ponca City. I suspect some of the places you may have encountered here in NE Oklahoma might have included the Green Country Ballroom, Lake Country Ballroom, the Moon Glow Hut, or Cain's Ballroom (of course!)......

I can't be positive not knowing the year, but I would bet on Norm's club towards Newkirk.
