I may be in the Islands in a month on a biz trip, and I would like to come listen to steel music, Hawaiian and pedal steel. I will be in Honolulu, and then the big Island.
Any tips on where to go and who to see??? |

Hi James,
You might try to contact Larry Allen, he winters on Kauai with a Zum and a Carter. I'm sure he wouldn't mind contact from another steeler and probably has some idea what's going on over there.

Eddie Palama's Moana Hotel performace times were accurate as of 3 weeks ago. Great player and a really nice guy. |

Thanx for the suggestions, guys. I will check it all out when I get closer to going. This sure saves me a ton of leg work, beings I don't know my way around very well. |

To save you the leg work, some of the best in steel guitar can be found at the Waikiki Beach Marriott hotel 3rd fl./poolside 6p, w/ Martin Pahinui group and Bobby Ingano on steel.
Thurs. 6p Genoa Keawe w/ Alan Akaka, +
(Bobby's Chai's gig is no more.)
You can hopefully catch Jeff Au Hoy at Kaspy's on Fri.'s at 10p, and maybe Bobby Ingano at 8p.
The Moana's Banyan Court, and The Halekulani's House w/out A Key at sunset every night for the usual culprits.
Overall, rather slim pickins these day's, but you might get lucky. |
