Those guitar duets were amazing. Convinced me to give up and look for a real job.
I remember a little lady named Loretta that would come out and sing. She is purty good too.

Yeah, I think the Wilburn Brothers should get more credit than they do for the exposure they gave to the pedal steel guitar. I remember when it ran on the Outlaw Music Channel, I saw Don Helms, Hal Rugg, Curly Chalker as staff players, and I remember Jimmie Crawford and Hal doing a song together on steel. Now THAT was cool! Also, if I remember correctly, they gave the band a chance to show off each program with an instrumental. How many of the country shows today would even think about that.

Hal Rugg was a great steel player back in those days as well. I have enjoyed seeing those old shows since I missed a lot of them as a kid.

Speaking of Hal reminds me of all those old Loretta Lynn sessions he covered that brought us out of our chairs back then. Makes me wonder what LL had in mind when she cut the current CMT video, Portland Oregon with some of the weakest steel playing I have ever seen or heard in 50 years. I don't know what all his moves and motions had to do with the music but it left me limp. I'll admit I haven't seen everything when it comes to steel guitaring but I would have been better of not seeing that !!!

Regards, Paul

I am another "old guy" who watched the
Wilburn Brothers show mostly to hear Hal play his instrumental on his C6 neck!

....but also, I have to admit steeling his commercial licks on those Loretta records!

Hal is one of the ICONS of steel guitar!
