Do you ever dream of Steel Guitars?
How many of you dream about steel guitars when your asleep? Ocassionally I have. They are usually real far out. Steel guitars like we've never seen. Monster sizes with all kinds of pedals and levers and I'm usually trying to play the darn thing on a job or music store. Last night I dreamed I wanted a new steel and Bruce Zumstead rang the doorbell. Sorry Bruce it was just a dream.

I do occasionally, usually it is connected with some sort of club gig. One dream I remember had me playing on a steel that had only two strings left and I had to struggle through some solos - maybe I didn't sound worse than in real life?

Just the unsual "unprepared for school"-type of dreams. You know: can't find my picks or bar, string broke, no spares, can't find my charts, the emcee calls my name and I'm stuck across town and don't know where the gig is... you know, that sort of thing... Hey wait a minute! That was no dream: that was last night!

In my dreams I know exactly how to play a part, what strings, pedals, frets, and my blocking is perfect. Even if I remember how I did it in my sleep, it doesn't work when I try it awake. Dang!

About 3 months after I bought my first Steel(a Sho Bud Professional that I still play) I had a dream that I was playing Jazz on the C6 neck and sounding like Curly Chalker. A few months after that I had a dream (nightmare) that I took my steel out of the case and there was a pad where the C6 neck had been. I still have dreams about steel guitar occasionally but those two are the ones that stick out in my memory the most.

I had a really 'detailed' dream quite recently - I dreamed that raising the 5th and 6th a whole step on pedal 4 would be a useful pull. Then - while STILL asleep (I swear!) it ocurred to me that, with my 'Day' set-up, I wouldn't need to raise the 5th - it was already there!
Next morning I tuned up the 6th and tried it out - and it worked! It's now on my guitar, although I haven't fully come to terms with it's potential.
I have no idea what put this in my head, but hours of day-dreaming about pedal options was probably responsible....
