Uwe.
Dicky play's a '66 Emmons P/P.
I think that there are more people overhere that can tell you what kind of Emmons this is.
Dickey calls his steel "Rosie".
He can also be heard on Red Kilby's cd on wich Dickey plays with Lloyd Green,Jerry Brightman and Ralph Mooney.
A cd well worth buying.
Hope this helps a little.

Thank you both.
I like that mellow sweet steel sound.
I didn`t think an Emmons could sound like that.
I`ll see if I can get that CD. |

Uwe there is a C.D out there called Floyd Tilman "The Influence" that has some of the best Dicky Overbey playing I've ever heard him do, a lot of c 6th too. If you can get that C.D you will like it.It is available from Heart of texas records the webb site is www.floydtillman.com The list of musicians on this C.D makes it worth the price plus all those great Tillman songs.there is another webb page listed on the record too it is tracy@hillbillyhits.com |

Dickey stole the St. Louis show this past year with Rosie. He left everyone in the audiance with the mouths dropped in amazement with the tone and the way he melted those notes and chords into one another. He is one of the greats! |

Uwe,
Dick Overbey's playing is incredible. It is also well worth checking out the previous Justin Trevino albums he played on,as well as most of Jake Hooker's material & Dicky's solo album. I understand he also played on some of Connie Smiths material & Hank Williams Jr's Whiskey Bent & Hell Bound.I would love to see him play live with Bobby Flores & the other great Texas musicians who are putting out some great traditional country music. |

Wait until you hear the Christmas album Dicky and Bobby Flores did together. I had a sneak preview the other day. I didn't hear all of it, but what I did hear was terrific! |

Thanks for the info. I already have the two previous Justin Trevino CD`s which both are great.
I`ll certainly look into those other ones -
you can`t have too many CD`s with good steel on ´em.

Every player has their list of favorite backup steel runs, intros, etc. Well, I've added one to my list: Dicky's turnaround on Jake Hooker's cut of "Sing A Sad Song". It's on Jake's CD titled "You Had A Call". Dicky is on each of the 14 cuts and does almost all of the intros.

I was playing in a British band called "Country Fever" in 1969, and we were booked to tour around Europe / Scandinavia, as back-up musicians for several RCA Victor country music stars, including Connie Smith. She told me that her touring steel player back then was Dickie Overbey. I later heard him playing some gorgeous steel on "Busy Making Plans" on a Ronnie Millsap "Live" album in the mid-70s (I think it was). Dickie's yet another of my steel guitar heroes. I believe Dicky is listed as a steel player on one of Johnny Bush`s latest CDs, Honky Tonic. |
