I was gonna ask this under Bradshaw's thread, but I didn't get to before it got closed(and rightfully so).
But I'm still relatively new in the steel guitar world, so I don't know everybody, and for that, I apologize---my own ignorance.
There was one guy on that thread, though, who seemed to think a lot of himself, but I don't know who he is. So could somebody let me know, either here, or by email if b0b closes this, who is Mike Cass? |

Well, for starters, he's a master restoration artists of old Emmons Push-Pulls. I don't know him personally, but his reputation in that department is rather legendary.

Mike Cass is generally regarded as one of the best Emmons push-pull mechanics in the world today. His restorations are legendary. I've heard he's a pretty darned good picker, too. |

There are two guys that have Buddy Emmons' stlye down to a knack. One is Ernie Renn and the other is Mike Cass. Also Mike is a dynamite push-pull tech. Oh yeah, and a nice guy. If you are new to the steel and the forum, I can understand your wondering. Some of us wonder, too, but not about Mike, but more about the honest-to-goodness reasons that Reece and Julian can't make the SGHOF. |

Mike played the main stage of the ISGC in 1999, and had the best tone of anyone there, IMO.
Last I heard he was on the road with Ray Price.
He's outspoken, and often not politically correct, and (I suspect) proud of it. That sometimes leads to trouble here. He's quit, (and thankfully) come back.
His skill at Push Pull Restation and Setup is legendary.
Personally, I enjoy his posts and personal emails. |

Mike Cass plays just as good as he restores old steels! I just picked up another old push pull from him last weekend and he worked overtime on this one, now I've got 7 knees!! Mike tells it like it is and I'm glad he's my friend! |

I heard Mike play for the first time at the ISGC in 1999, and it was the best set there that year, IMHO.
It was a lot of the same tunes that everybody was doing, but the tone and touch took me back to that Touch My Heart album, and the playing that made me fall in love with the instrument.

I took lessons from Mike (still wish I could play like him) when he was at the Pedal Steel Guitar Emporium in MPLS. I ran into him in So. St. Paul, MN where I grew up, at Kaposia Days when he played with the Bob Wills band (as I recall they were all wearing pressed white shirts, but I'd have to look at the photo to be certain) when he ripped off "Orange Blossom Special"
I believe they were fronting for David Alan Coe.
Then he showed up to play my Sho~Bud at a club with Barb Belobaba and ohhwee.......any recollection there Mike? Yep, great push-pull guy and player!! |

YEAH, I KNOW WHO CASS IS----ALWAYS HAVE. |
I don't enjoy being played like that, sir. I thought you were making an honest request. Has it really come to this? What did I ever do to you?
I'm closing your topic. You can explain via email if you care to.
