Just got it and it a good un'. The new single is on there along with one called Monday Morning Church. Only one cut I didn't like and that's cause it turned into one of those strung out In Love With A Waitress Solo jams. The jams are ok but I bought it for Alan. If I want to hear Paul play I'll buy a Paul album. The same with Brent Mason.

Alright.. So what you want is a acapella CD - only AJ and AJ alone.

Craig. That's interesting. I love Alan's singing as much as the next guy, but I bought this one mostly because I knew Paul Franklin and Brent Mason were playing on it. As with every recording these two artists perform on, I am always amazed. About the time you think you know what they're going to do on something, they totally blow you away with something entirely different!

Hey Craig's not picking on Paul. Craig just isn't into long drawn out jams. Paul's playing was great. So was Brents'. I would rather hear the artist and not the jam. Let's go this way: If I bought one of Paul's albums I wouldn't want to hear a bunch of singers taking up space on it,when I could hear Paul instead. Dag there is more than Paul and Brent on there or is your player broke. Bobby it is not a joke. And Paul, sorry if I hurt you. Like I said I wasn't dissin' your pickin'. I seldom respond to post like this but I think that it sounded way to negative about the musicans work even tho` you say it`s not ment to...

MY opinion are that the musicans contribution and arrangements are what lift this album up to the top, including the "jam".

Those longer instrumental parts or "jam" makes the album breath and I`ll even more appreciate when the vocal comes in after the "jam". A win -win situation. IMHO

In light of all the accolades regarding the psg playing by Paul and Brent on this album, I'm going to go buy it. I'm a huge PF fan.

Paul, if you make a CD, let me know and I guarantee it will be in my collection. And I do have the new AJ CD and the Honkeytonkville and anything that I know Paul Franklin is playing on.

I bought this CD because Paul and Brent were on there. Very tasteful playing, supportive of the songs and vocals, just what you'd expect from the masters of session slammin'. I took it that "Burnin' the Honkytonks Down" was intended to convey the impression of a live nightclub throwdown, where a bandleader lets his players go to town on a simple song progression, let loose, and show everyone what they can do. If that was the intent, it suceeds admirably. Great playing, and great fun. It seems to be the only song on the album with long solos... What's not to like?

Extended solos are something we don't hear too often these days, so let 'em play if they get a chance to!

Also, I don't think that these extended solos are "jams" - I cannot imagine calibres like Paul and Brent going into a recording session for a million dollar project, just jamming, with no plan what they will play or where they will end up...

When ever I am having a flat time in my playing, all I need for inspiration is to hear something with Paul playing on it !
In fact when ever I'm driving to a gig I usually have an AJ CD on in the truck just to get me in the right frame of mind for the upcoming job.

Ok you guys win. I guess I was on the wrong forum. So I give up. Let us not forget though that Mr Green does some cool stuff on the ablbum too. I wonder where Paul got some of those licks. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I would agree. I would and could believe you are on the wrong forum and I don't believe you have given up.
Also, I will tell you exactly where Paul Franklin gets his licks. He gets them from long hours of studying music as well as many years of practicing, studying and playing steel guitar, just as anyone who loves the instrument does. Simply one of the best if not the best. To imply anything else in the context you did, is ridiculous,not clever and not very nice.
By the way, I'll be buying the AJ cd ,just for the musicianship.

Well, I haven't had the chance to listen to AJ's new album yet either. But I love Paul's work on the Billy Currington album. Wondering if it helps that Carson Chamberlain was producing? He plays pedal steel as I recall. Paul?

As for AJ, he has truly developed his songwriting talent. Yet he always includes outside material. Having not heard the album yet, I guess I would expect that AJ picked the song in question because he admired the song and the songwriters . . . in addition to highlighting some gifted musicians who have truly developed their abilities as well. Is it Alan's decision-making that is really in question here then?

Tommy, You don't think Lloyd influenced Paul? Listen to the album. There is a lot of influence there. That's what I am talking about. So to think I am implying anything else is kind of rediculous, not clever and not very nice either.
