I have a Bigsby volume/tone pedal that needs a nylon cord for the tone control. I bought some nylon cord at a fabric store, but it just comes loose and breaks.
What should I use? Is there a certain gauge or material I should use?
Thanks, Chris |

Might I suggest a visit to a Fishing tackle shop?
They have nylon cord rated by breaking strain.
Cheers

Chris,
Are you sure you're stringing it up correctly? If I recall, those Bigsby pedals had a "maze" of string in 'em. You might wanna call Duane Marrs,to help you.

I believe I'm stringing it correctly, since I looked inside my friends Bigsby pedal as a "guide" when I first attempted the operation.
The problem is that it is wearing down where it loops through the "eye" in the volume knob(due to the constant friction), and the ends keep slipping out from the screws that hold it down on the wheel.
The cord that works the volume control is coated in something, but I don't know what that is.
Thanks, Chris |

You might also go to a Leather-Shop and purchase a hunk of Bees-Wax. That works well also! You might also try Fly-line from a tackle-shop. It doesn't fray when you cut it. You can avoid the fray of nylon cord by burning the tip when you cut it. The thicker the cord, the faster the pot will turn.

Try some rosin on the cord and wrap it at least a couple turns so that the stress point is taken off the area where you have to thread it thru the "eye". And, be sure your pot doesn't jam at the end of its travel to soon thereby misleading you to push harder in the direction you are going.

My Bigsby pedal is starting to slip--ie, the pedal falls to the "on" position and won't stay up at the "off" position. How might I adjust the tension?
Thanks,
D |

Dana, Your spring tension that attaches to the cross bar of the lower frame and connects to the upper frame in the heel area has weakened. If you can cut a loop off your spring and increase your tension, it might solve your problem.
