Anybody else catch the Shania/Union Station special last night? Jerry had this strange distortion effect going on in the beginning. What is that?
BTW, that band is so great they actually made Shania look good. Her voice I mean, not just her leather jumpsuit |

Jerry Douglas is one outrageously BAD Dude! He appeared to use only one guitar and tuning for the entire show. I have no idea what he ran through, but he appeared to be plugged in.
The rest of AKUS were not too shabby either! I thought what they did suited Shania's music perfectly.
A stage full of true professionals.

Douglas sends his dobro signal thru a rack full of gear, including a Line6 amp, and a feedback destroyer of some kind. Sorry I'm not specific.
I saw him play with his band at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. His playing is absolutely amazing to witness. He used 2 dobros, probably one in G and another in D, don't know for sure, but he didn't have any roadies popping up and taking his guitars off stage for retuning. He played a huge variety of music with just 2 tunings.
Never miss a show if he comes to your town, especially if he's fronting the show. He's great with whomever he plays with, but a full set of tunes that he leads can't be beat. |

Jerry's used a lot of outboard gear, sometimes sounding more like a lap steel than a Dobro. But he's still incredible! He's using a gizmo called the Hipshot Trilogy, which is a tailpiece that changes tunings with some little levers on each string. But he sticks to "G" and "D" most of the time, I think.
And Alison AND Shania looked pretty good, didn't they? |
