Ok here it is. My first attempt at playin steel with some backup tracks (I used a Boss Jamstation) and I could use some constructive criticism. I've been playin my new steel for about a month now and played dobro before that for a few years which I think gave me a little edge on it this time around. I feel like I've made a lot more progress in a month than I did 15 years ago when I tried to learn steel guitar and gave up after a year of total frustration, I even had the picks on backwards for a long time  I wish I had had access to the internet, and this forum back then, not to mention all the really excellent instructional stuff available now. Sounds better then when i first started.I would start working on the blocking technique.There are video's that would help i think...

Andy, you are sounding great. You are getting a nice tone, your intonation is pretty much on pitch which means your ears are working good for you. I don't hear any problems in your blocking which I think will come natural to you without any real concentration on it. Keep working on what you are doing now and start branching out into more melodic playing. You might spend some time playing up and down the old do, re, me scales. Find the scale notes both single string and two string harmonizes and get them down where you can play them all over the neck and you are on your way. You are doing very good.

Thanks guys, very encouraging to hear..I think I'll stick with it and not sell it to take up the Oboe or the Pan Flute...yeah I know, what a smart assssss!

Andy,
Sounds good to me. I've only been playing PSG about 7 months after many years of guitar playing, but I can hear you are in tune and your pedal pushing sounds pretty smooth. I'm using a Jeff Newman video, among other materials, and he pushes vibrato use a lot, so maybe that's something to work on more for you. Take that with a grain of salt because I'm just learning all this stuff too.

Keep up the great work. I admire anyone who plays the steel guitar.
Sounds great. Others are right...videos and talk tapes can enhance what you are already doing.
This forum is an awesome resource... It has helped my playing and steel guitar education greatly.
I would like to hear you play Dobro too!!
