Anyone know who the steeler is in this old pic? The Cousin Herb Henson Trading Post TV Show was broadcast live in Bakersfield on KERO Channel 10 from 5 M TO 5:45 from 1953-1963, when Herb Henson passed away from a fatal heart attack. Bill Woods, Billy Mize and Cousin Herb started this show. The broadcast signal was so powerful that the show could be viewed all the way up in Fresno, 105 miles to the North. It was extremely popular with many famous artists of the day who performed on the show first and then later that evening performed at The Blackboard Nightclub. Bill Woods was the promoter.

That's easy for a Bakersfield boy...that's Billy Mize.
That's Cousin Herb Henson sitting down, Billy Mize at steel, Al Brumley Jr on guitar, and Del and Sue Smart in the background. Bonnie Owens is singing.
This was in the 50's in Bakersfield.
Notice Bonnie singing barefoot. A country girl for sure. And she can still sing better than most gals these days.

Hey guys, Didn't Jelly Sanders do some work with Buck back in the late 50's- early 60's? Seems like I have seen his name on one of Buck's old albums.

That is Joe and Rose Lee Maphis in the picture. Hey Andy, Jelly Sanders had a boy named Jim who played bass and worked around Los Angeles for a while. Do you know if he's still playing or not? Thanks, JH.

Look closely behind the girl at the mic. There is a guitar player standing behind her. Wonder who in his right mind would be wanting to play guitar while the great Joe Maphis was playing bass????? |

Yep, I do believe Jelly did lots of fiddlin' on Buck's late 50's hits. Then in the early 60's he ventured up north to Washington state and met that 16 year old kid Don Rich and the rest is......
