WHAT HAPPENED???

I loved the old site for researching musicians and artists. You could look up any artist/song/musician, etc and find out who played on what song, album, etc? I've registered there and can't even get the search to do anything!

Yes, they have changed their whole format pretty dramatically but I've had no problems using it. Works fine over here.

Jon

So you can do a search for Paul Franklin or whoever and get all the albums? I've tried disabling Norton Security and can't get any searches to work.

Hmm--ok, a few days ago it worked fine for me. Just now I punched in Paul Franklin and I got an "overview" page and a biography. But if I try to get a list of credits I'm told that I've got to register. Maybe I will, maybe not. If I can do it without email I will but I'm not keen to exposing myself to spam--likely the only reason they want me to register.

I just checked their FAQ page and maybe this pertains to you?

Nothing happens when I click on links or use search. What’s up? OR Why can’t I access Advanced Search even though I’m logged in?

We suspect that your problem is caused by a browser incompatibility issue. The new allmusic.com is optimized for Internet Explorer for Windows 5.5 and above. We continue to make modifications to increase the compatibility of the site with the other major browsers - Mozilla, Opera and Safari. While the site is not optimized for Mac, basic functionality should work using the Mac Safari browser. IE for Mac, however, is unfortunately not supported and may not permit logging in, clicking on links, search functionality, and accessing samples.

The new site works here, but it's a lot slower than the old one.
Also they still haven't fixed the worst bug: if you right-click on a link, there is no option to "Open in New Window".

It must be something on my PC. My daughters' works fine. I did register but none of the links work. I am running IE 6.xxx so it's not my browser. Even with it working, it sucks compared to the old site

I haven't yet had much of a chance to mess around with the new Allmusic website (altho I have registered -- I've got firewalls & virus protection up the wazoo on my computer, so I'm not worried about getting spammed/infected/etc.), but, like Scott says, AM has been so useful to me in the past that I am certainly willing to be patient while they get all the bugs worked out. And I realize that that might take a while...

One great improvement is that sound-clips of songs are now available. I've experienced some bugs getting those clips to play, but, after two or three tries, those clips eventually play.

I had to "register," of course, but it's free. I've surfed the site with Apple's Safari browser and it seems to work fine. AMG has been re vamped quite a bit and it's going to take a little getting used to, but all the info seems to be there. Just not as easy to access.
