I'd agree that it was Jay Dee. At the time those movies came out I was working with Cliff Crofford and Billy Mize at the Foothill Club in Long Beach (Signal Hill), California. Cliff was a well known songwriter and was working on the soundtracks and some songs for the movie(s). He was also on camera and played the bass in the band scenes. The biggest tune Cliff had written for the movie was "Send Me Down to Tucson" which Mel Tillis recorded. Funny thing is that the movie version of the tune featured Jay Dee on steel but the release to radio version was re-recorded in Nashville and featured another steeler, I don't remember who it was. The song was also on one of Mel's albums with the Nashville version and on the sound track version which featured Jay Dee. I don't know why they re-recorded it as the Nashville guy just copied Jay Dee's playing on that version. Have a good 'un...JH
