Topic: Great old country shows make a comeback! |

Guys, I just wanted to report that some great old country shows started playing on RFD-TV this week. It seems Willie Nelson is making these shows available to be seen from his vaults (at least that's what they say). The shows that will be played are The Wilburn Brothers Show, Pop Goes The Country, The Porter Wagoner Show, Billy Walker's Country Carnival, and Gospel Jubilee. I get RFD-TV on my Dish Network Top 150 package, and you can go to www.RFDTV.com to check the schedule if you have it. Last night I saw the Wilburn Brothers with some killer steel, and I think maybe it was Curly Chaulker playing with Loretta Lynn, George Jones, and Tammy Wynette. Talk about great tone...WOW  . Then it was Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins on Pop Goes The Country. Awesome! Check it out if you can because you won't see shows like this anymore. |

| Sounds great except I don't want to invest in a new DirecTV elliptical dish which picks up two satellites signals that is presently required to receive RFDTV. It is implied on their site that this dish thing is temporary. Maybe I'll eventually get the channel with the equipment I have. |

Would love to be able to see these shows, and thanks for the heads-up. I will call my local cable company and request RFD-TV. |

for a short while the Wiburn Bros shows were available as streaming video online... but not for a couple years now...

| There has been mentioned shows by the Wilburn Brothers. How many Wilburn brothers were there? I think I have a picture from a show I was on in 1959 at ET's Midnight Jamboree.We had two Wilburns playing with us that night. I believe they were George and Leslie.One was on bass and the other on fiddle. |

| Hey guys, I said I thought Curly Chaulker was on the Wilburns show I saw. I read that he was at some time, but a closer look reveals that Hal Rugg was on steel on the episode I saw. Smokin'! |

SHWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!! I just set the DVR to record the shows today. I'll have to check out the schedule and get it set to record all of them. I hope I don't run out of space on the DVR, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe the wifes shows will get accidentally erased.  |

| Thanks for the info on these great old shows. Saturday night at 8 PM CST,I saw an old show that I was a part of,Billy Walker,country carvinal.It brought back a lot of good memories. I was a member of The Tennessee Walkers playing Bass.Other members were George Lewis on Drums,Arless Scott on Lead Guitar,Sonny Burnett Steel Guitar, Also on the shows was Jerry Whitehurst on Pi ano,and on Rhythm Guitar Walter Haynes. |

| Thanks for the info. My family and I watched the two shows on Saturday night. My 14 year old who doesn't like country (GAC/GMT/GOO) liked it and asked why they don't make shows like those any more. I had to tell him that the folks who control the money follow the bucks. If they have to choose, they will go for what sells. (Old fashioned) Country doesn't sell.Karlis |

| I wish they'd do that up here with the Tommy Hunter Show. Or better yet, rather than just re-broadcast the old shows re-launch it altogether. I thought maybe they would last year when they got a lot of the old regulars together for a one hour special but it was just the one episode. I think Tommy Hunter is still performing around southern Ontario. That was a great show and millions of people on both sides of the border enjoyed it for many years. |

That was Hal Rugg & Buddy Spicher doing "Raisin' the Dickens" on last weeks show and it was SMOKIN!
I have my tivo set to record all of these shows. |

I remember as a kid seeing Doyle or Teddy Wilburn have Hal Rugg show the underside of one of his shoes, which had a hole in it.
Don Helms and Curly Chalker did Wilburn shows also. Was there someone else?? |

Shucks! we have an ole Toshiba (big) satelite, and we can't get it.
I loved the Wilburn brothers and Porter wagoner shows, and especially the Gospel jubilee.
