I had the honor of spending the better part of last week with Bill Stafford, who acted as "A & R" man at my request for my CD session at Silvercreek Studios near Bill's residence. While there, I had an opportunity to spend several hours picking around on and looking at that beautiful Excel. As I told Bill, I have never seen that level of quality in any steel guitar I have ever seen. The attention to detail is unbelievable, the tone is beautiful, and the thing sustains forever. |

Thanks Greg and Roy for those nice comments and photo. (The steel looks good). lol.
It was a great honor for me to have been in the presense of one of our steel greats that gave us and the rest of the world all those beautiful steel guitar sounds on songs like the "Tennessee Waltz" "Bonaparte's Retreat", "Slow Poke" and other songs made famous by Pee Wee King and the Golden West Cowboys of which Roy was a member and played on those original recordings. Roy certainely recaptured those good ole sounds this past week in the Silvercreek Studio-and just wait till you hear his version of "The Lord's Prayer" with all the big chords of Alvino, Boggs, Bowman (Billy-this time). And of course "Tennessee Waltz" was recorded one more time. Final mix will be completed this week and in the hands of Roy. Look for this one to bring many memories to bear.
My new EXCEL Superb model steel has a 25 1/2" scale and lives up to its model name in all aspects. MItsuo Fujii has developed many new improvements in this guitar.
Thanks again Roy and Greg.

I would love to see and hear Roy Ayers play. Bill had one of the very first if not the first Excel SuperB models. Mine was one of the early ones also. Since that time Mitsuo has added (as Bill says) some great features. And he has improved on a number of things. The workmanship is superb (pun intended )
Scotty's is the dealer. If you are in the market for a new guitar and you are considering the universal, do check out the Excel. NO it does NOT sound like an Emmons. But like Bill, I love its sound. And NO one could ever want a more accomadating builder than Mistuo Fujii.
While he has great difficulty with our language, he bends over backwards to do everything he can to please you.

Thanks, Bill. But if there is anything good about my CD it's because of the good musicians that backed me up and the inspiration your presence provided. |
