Hey everybody,

Please be kind to an old country boy who's just startin' out (again). I did a search and found a little about what I'm gonna ask, but not quite enough, so here goes.

What picks and type do you use? I know this has probably been debated alot. I'm just getting back into the steel after a 30 year break, and the fingerpicks seem really difficult to get used to. Do most players go with both thumb and fingerpicks? I've seen a few threads where playing without picks was mentioned.

Many thanks!

Scotty

Scotty, I strongly encourage you to contact Jeffran Music....get his right hand video and his finger and thumb picks. This method will get started right and avoid unlearning bad habits. This method seems difficult at first, but so does any new skill. There are thousands of us, I guess that swear by this method.
There are other ways you can go but this one offers the most professional guidance IMHO.
Best of luck in your endeavor. JO

Please forgive me Scotty, I'm guilty of not reading your post thoroughly. Missed the "again" part.
I still think the Jeffran fingerpicks are the best.

I hated picks and tried several different makes and thicknesses when I started playing a few years ago and finally settled on Dunlop .020 fingerpicks.
I think picks are necessary to get the correct attack and sound (that I'm looking for anyway).
