I saw an excellent video the other day of Waylon Jennings doing "Honky Tonk Heroes". Does anyone know who the steel player would have been, circa 1975?

In 1974 and 1975...I was playing four or five nights a week solid for over a year in "knock ém down ..drag ém out" bar here......all that was missing was the chicken wire around the bandstand !!!!!
All though ..when the fights started...we did have a few big guys whou would come stand in front of the stage......"You guys go for a beer..we'll look after your stuff on stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife bought me the L.P. of Waylon......Honky Tonk Heroes ....on the strenth of this...........I still have it somewhere and i am pretty sure it is Ralph Mooney on steel.......I think Tompall and the Glazer Bros are on it too............great L.P !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, it was Moon on the album, and I can't imagine it being anyone but Moon on the video you saw. Last year after the Texas show, Brad Sarno said he had just one word to say...."Mooney". That's how I feel every time I listen to Honky Tonk Heroes. One of my all time favorite records.

Thanks for the responses...

I was blown away, it is one thing to hear a song on the radio, but to watch someone make such music is way too cool. The man was one hot picker. In this part of the world "Honky Tonk Heroes" is just about our National amthem. It is one of my favorites too!
