I linked to a website over in the "test" section of our forum. This website is called "Pure Country Music". I was perusing their present CD offerings and I came unglued. The following letter to them is self explanatory:
quote: "Gentleman,
I find it unconscienable that you would offer an Eddy Arnold CD on your "Pure Country Music" website that included ONLY recordings he made AFTER he turned his back on country music where he used full string orchestras; instead of the instrument that made him; IE, the steel guitar with Little Roy Wiggins playing it.
In fact, it is highly doubtful today, that ANY one would even know of EA, had it not been for those incredible 13 yrs when he was rising to fame being backed up by Roy's unprecedented playing and his signature "ting-a-ling" sound.
For some reason, you elect to offer EA's pop (NON country) selections; and yet you offer the original "country" hits for all the other stars' CD's.
Shame on you,
carl dixon"

When I first heard EA (as a youngster more or less) I didn't like him because it was so saccarine with all those strings.
Like slow Sinatra without the good horns.
But later when I heard his early stuff I went oh this is cool.
And wondered why he stopped doing it like that.
Carl I can see why you would be upset, knowing him when he was still real roots country.
Now I note at this time the country rockers or hippie steelers were gravitating to the older styles, because they didn't like the droning strings either.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 23 February 2004 at 12:05 PM.] |

..well, unconsciOnable might be a tad strong a word...Enron stealing the life savings of thousands of people was unconscionable...
..I might find this merely annoying..[This message was edited by Pat Burns on 23 February 2004 at 12:58 PM.] |

Pat,
Thanks for correcting my spelling. I looked in my dictionary before typing that word because I had the "o" in there. It did not look right. Sadly, my dictionary did not have the word in there. Then I put the E instead. I find after reading your post, I was correct the first time.
Thanks again, I stand corrected on my misspelling. By the way, I stand on the use of the word, regardless of its spelling

Howard, you crack me up!
I've never heard any of the Eddy Arnold with strings. I guess it was before my time. When I finally got into country music, I went straight for the good stuff.

Would you lower that with a lever or a pedal? |
