I have had SO many contacts by email, since I "signed up" a few months ago, several phone calls too with some real nice steel folks. Some of the guys who have taken the time to mail me are well known men in the steel guitar community too.. Business men whose time is valuable.. I have belonged to other musician forums, but they pale in comparison. There are no secrets here.. the very best share readily with the beginners and with those who are as talented as they. Its also a bit humbling for some too.. you may at times think to yourself.."man I play this thing SMOKIN'hot",then you hear some guy that made a tape in his basement blow your SOCKS off and he's been playing a full 2 years at best, and is as proficient as you were after 20... I have really enjoyed my time here.. I value each and every opinion and I like the fact that I've found a bunch of like minded friends that can deal with my boring war stories... I only wish I could meet all of you in person someday!Fat chance I guess, but it sure is great to "talk" to you here.... bob

We'll all be over next Sunday. Chicken & ribs sound good. Plan on enough for about 3200 people. And Joey Ace likes the good beer.....none of that on sale stuff....

Bob,

Well said! I got some sort of a shock last week when the Forum was offline for a couple of hours and I didn't know about it. There I was sitting in front of my computer, not knowing what was going on (did the Forum close? Just a technical problem? Whom can I ask?). Imagine my relief when it was back on again! It was like not knowing what is going on with a family member!

The Forum has become my No. 1 source for information, advise, gossip etc. Only nice people there!!!

Greetings, Walter

Bob, you can't find a better group of friends. After attending a few steel jams/shows and Scotty's convention, a fiddle player friend of mine was amazed at how friendly and how eager the steel players are to help each other. Including those at the top. It's a great forum.
You can meet many of the members at the International Convention in St Louis.

I wish that were true. Lookup some of Bobbe's posts concerning the reasons for Push Pull tone and you'll see it's not.

Well said Bob, and nice to have you here as a contributer.

In the last year since I joined, I have gone from not having touched a pedal steel in 10+ years and then only for a few minutes every few years, to playing jazz, blues and country and other musics, both on recordings and live ;
and not clearing the room when I do.

This I attribute to all the fine people and great postings here,
and a few in particular who REALLY helped out in a personal way.

And the next aspect is getting a REALLY good idea of the history, historical personalities and their work in this instrument.

IF you add recomendations on some great music... that coincidentally has a focus on the Steel guitar, and it's relations, it becomes a goldmine for beginners.

The icing is to get people like : Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, Jay Dee, Doug Jernigan, and on and on and on dropping in giving commentary, answering quetions.

And there also are many quite funny people here too. And you know who you are.. in most cases!

Well as Howard says in NYC Vat's not to like!

For me as someone living on another continent from my native land at the moment, it also is an english language home for me.

Some times is is a socio-political sounding board, because of the very wide range of people who come together for the instrument.

There are so many cultural groups or sub-culture groups represented here. It is a suprising study base as an anthropologist.

This HAS to be the best place to meet people who are the nicest folks in the world! I am a new player, sold a steel, bought a new one with the knees screwed around and asked if someone could help. Well, forum member Bob Myers of Hedgesville, WV calls me, fixed my steel and invited me to a jam that was great! It's guys like him that the forum really needs. A heart of pure gold!! Thanks to everyone for their help in getting my playing off the ground!! I love this place!
