I spoke to Bela Fleck, the great jazz banjoist, in Nashville this past weekend. He would definitely be interested in doing a project with Buddy Emmons.
What do you think? Is it something that you would like to hear? Is it something that you would buy?
Of course, even though Bela is iterested, Buddy would have to have the final say.
Personally, I would love to be able to see it through.
I can even invision Buddy doing some personal appearances with Bela and the Flecktones.
Imagine, steel guitars foremost picker playing the jazz clubs. I've always dreamed about that throughout the years.
Thanks,
Dave Burley |

Man I would LOVE to see that happen! No offence to Bela, but Buddy absolutely should already be getting all the same of kind jazz kudos and venues that Bela is getting. All he needs is the same kind of incredible, "out of the box" type band that Bela puts together so well. As great as Bela is, it's still a B*njo for crying out loud. Nothing like a PSG the way Buddy plays it. |

I would love to see that. Rick, remember, it is just a dang banjo so it aint to easy to play complex jazz chords on 5 strings. Bela is incredible. |

Buddy Emmons is the reason I started playing Pedal Steel and Bela Fleck is the reason I purchased a Deering Crossfire electric banjo. I would love to hear my two all time favorite musicians play music together.
Do it Buddy..... |

I spent quite some time on the telephone today and I do have a major label interested in a Buddy Emmons/Bela Fleck project.
One of you that talk to Buddy quite often might mention it to him and if he is interested, have him get in touch with me.
Thanks,

I like this idea but, not to change the subject, does anybody know why there has never been an Emmons/Martino collaboration? |

In 1976 Pat Martino gave me his ok to do a project with Buddy Emmons. Martino's manager would not ok it.
It would have been a great album as Buddy was in top form and Pat was Buddy's favorite jazz guitar player at the time.
Again about a year ago I tried to do the same project but Buddy felt that he would rather not do it at the time.

Boy, would I love to hear that. And Buddy would be getting steel out to a bunch of new ears, although we'd probably be surprised at how many of Bela's fans know exactly who Buddy is and what he does! That crowd is pretty tuned in on many aspects of the music scene.

This would be one incredible team up. The BEST DVD I own is "Bela Fleck and the Flecktones live at the quick"....guests include a Tuvan Throat Singer, a jazz oboe player, steel pans and a jazz bassoon.
Please make this happen.
