Does anyone know if Buddy has the tab out for his arrangement of Danny Boy from his "black" CD? ...finest I've ever heard.
...just don't seem to be able to grasp some of the movements from listening to the recording.
Many thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,
There`s tab for the Buddy Emmons version of Danny Boy in Scotty`s Anthology of Pedal Steel Guitar. From what I remember there is quite a bit of half pedalling. Hope this is of some help.

I don't know if Herby Wallace still offers it, but I learned Danny Boy from a tab I got from Emmons Guitar Co back in the 70's which was done by Herby. And it is very close to what Buddy did on his Black Album recording.
If you can't find one, you might wish to do a search and give Herby a call.

You may want to check out Neil Flanz's recording circa 1961 of "Danny Boy" from his instrumental album(he has 2 GREAT steel albums). Neil told me he took it right out of the Jimmy Day-Buddy Emmons song book!! For C6th fans, the GREATEST version ever done was by Curly Chalker on Charlie McCoys' instrumental album. WOW!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, and opinon it is,
Buddy Emmons had the best E9th cut. Curly Chalker the best C6th recording on his Counterpoint L.P. via Tom Bradshaw Pedal Steel Guitar Products.
Other great studio recordings or live recordings that I am aware. Jerry Byrd via "Steel Guitars, Burning Samds, and Pearly Shells.
Next, Maurce "Reece" Anderson LP.s. and then my buddy and mentor's, Julian Tharpe's live rendition via the Steel Guitar Bash, Saint. Louis, MO c. 1983., with or without the steel bar. Go figure what a steel artist could do?
Everyone of these are worthy of each of our ears. These guys could each cut it, and did.
Hope this might help you brother.
A classic/great song, by true artists each in his own right.
GOD bless you!
Woody!

Rick, Carl has a good point. Herby's old instruction album with tab has an excellent arrangement of Danny Boy. Billy Cooper's Music (540/854-5940 or email
coopersmusic@hotmail.com) has several copies of that course.

Concerning Danny Boy arrangement, I did this on my very first instruction course back in 1969 for the Emmons Guitar Co. Ron Lashley asked me to do three songs that were on the Black Album, which were Danny Boy, Greensleeves and Blue Jade. Although the arrangements are exactly the same as Buddy's, they are similar. We did this whole course with 2 pedals and one knee lever which is the way Ron wanted it. The course consisted of a total of 10 songs.
By the way, Rick your course is in the mail and I hope you enjoy it. If anyone is interested in this course, I have just a few left as they are out of print.

There's a simple and decent tab arrangment in the Winnie Winston book, done by Bill Keith.
