Talent Scouts

Post by Ray Montee »

In March, 1945, WLS Radio summoned Rex Allen from the west coast to their Ohio station for an audition. He was an instant hit and recording success; movies too.
Any of you steel players ever "seen" a real, live, breathing, talent scout, aside from Jody Carver who was truly discovered and did appeared on the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts that was aired back in the days of black and white radio (minus an picture.)
I used to hear a lot about them when I was first starting out and waited and waited for that Grand Ole Opry talent scout to fetch me right off of the bandstand. THEN, when Leon Rhodes did just that, I failed to
recognize the situation for what it really was. HOW ABOUT YOU?
