For me it's the ones that consistently offer nothing but negativity for just about any topic. You're reading along enjoying the post and the responses and then this jerk offers up this idiotic statement that really shows his ignorance.

To make it worse they keep doing it in other posts after a couple of the other forum members tell them how out of line they are. They just don't learn to keep their trap shut.

Then of course there's the guy that can't quit bragging about his gear or how many guitars he has. I always heard you let your talent do your talking for you.

The forum is a regular part of my day like the paper or the news. I wouldn't mention them by name but it would be nice if before we post we would consider;
Is this a positive statement for the forum or more negativity?
Is my question relative or am I just doodling aimlessly?

This is only my opinion but wouldn't it be nice if we all considered the fact that our opinion isn't the last one? I know I do.

I hate it when steel players from Nashville
post about other steel players bragging about
their gear and making idiotic statements.

Frank, I have made the SGF an everyday learning experience. It sucks that some individuals are causing your experience to be less than it should be. I would offer a respectful possible solution: Personally contact those you have the issues with offline, through email or phone and maybe it could be resolved. If I have caused any of this through any of my posts, I certainly apologize.

Oh yeah, one bother to me...
Someone that continually tries to sell steel guitars and doesn't post prices or pics...

On Buy & Sell, I'll almost never read a thread called "Stuff for Sale" or just "For Sale". Ya gotta put what it is in the title for me to open it, cuz let's face it, most of us are NOT in the market for 99% of the things that are offered for sale at any given time. Just makes good business sense too...

What I hate is when posters start nit-pickin'. There is a post on no peddlers about Jerry Byrd. He is definitely an icon when it comes to the steel guitar but there are always those that want to chip away at something or other. "Put the best construction on all that he does". (from the Good Book)

In the posts that I make I try to first be helpful if it is a question relating to Steels.I get many ,many phone calls about 'Steels" and sometimes I 'Post" a similiar question to try to get a general response. I get upset when someone tries to "Trash" someone or their product.I also get upset by these people that constantly try to "promote someone in particular or a specific product". I try to make all my posts "Positive" ED Naylor Steel Guitar Works

I hate posts typed in all caps. They are very hard to read, and I usually just skip over them. I think some people do it because they aren't sure what words to capitalize. I would rather read a post in all lower case, even if the beginning of sentences, proper nouns, etc. are not capitalized.

People complaining about how things aren't "like they used to be" when these "horrible new things" are over FIFTY years old, I have to wonder.

Posts about how "The Forum" bashes Robert Randolph, and come to think about it, because that's how they always seem to end up...

Posts about Robert Randolph.

Hey, you asked..

Chuck,
Maybe you'd care to elaborate. Is it just the steel players from Nashville that tick you off or could it be those multitudes from Texas?

I've only found one in the vicinity I could do without and he doesn't live in Nashville.

For all of you guys in Texas reading this no offense intended. It wouldn't take much for me to move to your state. I envy the music and the steelers.

I just can't stands it when someone continually pops up in a variety of threads and posts stupid jokes, silly remarks, and pokes humor at just about anything.

What do they think this is? A friendly and casual meeting place where players can exchange ideas and info in an amicable way?

We've got people to bash, equipment to downgrade, rumors to create, and accusations to be made.

Since I first joined, this place has really gone uphill! Let's bring back the vengence and meaness that we've been missing!!!

Oh yeah, and Frank,...the horse you rode in on too!!!!

Posts that lament the future dissappearance of steel guitar. Hey - are there really fewer steel players than there used to be? I'd say the opposite is true, and we know this, thanks to the consistent stream of new members joining this his forum.

Like other day, someone introduced themselves and had some very relevant questions....

....oh yeah, my other pet peeve: topic drift! (Sometimes it's hard to avoid)

I get a little put off when guys that have been playing less years than I have (30years) are telling me what is and what aint cool.

I also get a little ticked when guys that have been playing way longer than me are telling me what is and what aint cool.

What turns me off is the intrusion of personal chest-thumping and self-congratulations that has nothing to do with the thread's question at hand.

An example would be a thread about how to add a knee lever change on a Brand X guitar, then someone writes "what you oughtta do is dump that thing and get a Brand Y guitar, LIKE I HAVE."

Basically posts that don't contribute something: either an answer, a related question, or humor.

Buy/Sell posts with no city or area mentioned in the post or in the Author Box. If the guy is selling a Lil' Izzy that's okay, but I would pay more attention to an ad for an amp or a D10 if I thought I had a chance of inspecting it. Maybe that's just my big city mentality. It seems we can find almost anything here in Los Angeles.

There's a feeling sometimes that there is one and only way to do things... unlike horn players, or guitar players or whatever, there's this "We all must want to sound like the black album" "such-and-such is the best guitar/effect/amp blah blah blah."

What about differences in taste??

Also, while I put my retarded two cents in in places where my betters have trod, I try (and hopefully have managed, with any luck) to make my level of guessing clear... but I'm bugged by the fact that real, honest questions draw a lot of really irrelevant "answers". It's on the order of "What's 2+2?" "Oh, jeez, you shouldn't use twos, they are just not as good as threes" etc. As per what Herb said above.

I joined the Forum last year in November and it has become some sort of an addiction to me, there is so much information, so many different topics, I have to check every day to see what's going on!

So far I have only seen one thread that became a little too personal and offending, but that got settled.

For me I read the posts that are of interest for me and skip the ones that I am not interested in. I always respect other's opinions if they are different than mine, sometimes it gives me a good reason to think over my standpoint. Personally I don't like the nit-picker's attitude of correcting each and everybody and try to show off, on the other hand I have met (only through PC so far) some of the nicest anmost helpful people you can imagine!

Long live the Forum!
