Hello, Paul, this is Brett, the steel guitarist with cerebral palsy. I'm still playing the steel guitar and loving it! What amplifier do you use when you play on records? I play through a Fender amplifier but I played through a Peavey amplifier when I first started playing. I still play along with you on my cds. I went to the St. Louis steel convention this past year for the first time and loved it! I want to meet you. Brett Day, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel |

Hello Brett,
No need to keep introducing yourself. I remember your name and look forward to our first visit. How's your playing coming along? I learned by playing along with records, too. My favorites were Ray Price's "Cherokee cowboys" and Buck Owen's "Your For Me" albums. Bud and Moon were my strongest influences.
Because there was no tab back then, I ended up learning the various styles of players by copying records. Connie Smith's first album with "Once a Day" and "Then and Only Then" would be a good one to check out.
A Fender is as good as it gets as long as your not gigging with "KISS". Peavey's are great. I own both along with my main session amp, the Mesa Boogie Studio preamp and Mosvalve power amp. AJ's "Five O'clock somewhere was a Fender Twin. "Too Cold At Home" was a Peavey 400. GS's "Something Special" and "Ocean Front Property" LP's were direct into the board. Back in those days, I only used a Lexicon PCM 41 delay between the guitar and the direct box. I traveled light. Basically everything 92 and after is the Mesa Boogie....I look forward to hearing you play someday....Paul |

Good morning Paul,
I too am an unabashed fan of your playing and appreciate every comment you make on this forum.
Recently I have been looking at a box full of old record albums and wishing I had something to play them on again. So I finally found an old turntable and wired it up to an old PA amp and monitor speakers and suddenly I'm in vinyl heaven.
Among my LPs I found "Paul Franklin, Just Pickin". I was curious when that was done. Judging by the hairstyle on the cover...well, I won't venture a guess.
Also found I had a Mel Tillis record album from 1974. "Stomp Them Grapes". Isn't that about the time you were with the Statesiders?

Paul, I remember "Too Cold At Home" and "Five O'Clock Somewhere. The Fender amp I use is for country songs. There was a song you played a solo on called "Rain Of Angels" by Lila McCann and the steel in that song is awesome. I've played along with George Strait's "Oceanfront Property" and some of Alan's hits, like "Here In The Real World". I look forward to meeting you and playing for you.
