I ordered a DVD from timelife.com of the first episode ever aired of Hee Haw. It was 06-15-1969. I saw who I think was JD Maness playing for the Buckaroos but who was that playing behind Charley Pride? Does anyone know?

I'm taking a guess here: Gene O' Neal?

I remember that first episode. My parents were excited that country music was being seen on network T.V. CBS later dropped it but it thrived in syndication. I believe that Hal Rugg was the "staff" steel guitarist during the CBS years but it could have very possibly been Gene O'Neal with Charlie Pride. Hee Haw was always pretty good at presenting the featured artists with their own bands.

I received the VHS of this for Christmas and I thought it might be Jerry Brightman playing with Charley.
