What a true highlight Leonard Zinn was yesterday at Scotty's 2003 Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame Show. He played a cool old Epiphone Electar 2-neck/8stringer with no volume pedal. Beautiful music, beautiful sound, and what a terrific person to meet. I can't imagine a nicer guy. I've watched him at the ISGC sittin there for hours on rhythm guitar but this was a real treat to hear him on this particular steel. He just got back from hanging out with Jerry Byrd in Hawaii and you could hear it. He also pulled out his own version of a "frypan". It was a real frypan, teflon and all, imbedded into what almost looked like a 2x4. The frets were drawn on and each fret was signed by a famous player. Fret one was signed by Jimmy Day. If you missed the internet broadcast I think Steel Radio will re-broadcast in the near future.

Yes I must agree with brad i think the highlight of the show was Leonard. ANd the biggest thing was all the autographs on the "frypan" Jerry byrd had written..."two eggs over easy! jerry byrd" what a hoot. that guitar had more history than a library( not to mention great tone). And yes it was a 2x4 attached to a teflon fry pan plus the nut was a 16 penny nail.what a rig!!!
and yes Leonard is a prince among princes..we were fortunate to have dinner with leonard and the band after the show. when it was time for good by's ' Leonard hugged my wife and I like old frineds. what a sweet man. and good lord what a sweet player...it was definately a memorable experience...

I just did (2) shows at the Ohio State Fair with L.T. and he was playing a single neck M.S.A. and he was using a small amp something like a fender princeton and he was getting a great sound out of it . He was fun to pick with . I dont remember what type of effects that he was using . But it was fun . Regards ,,,Gary. |

L.T. is a person I'm proud to call a friend. It is so great to see a person with the integrity, warmth, and humility that go along with his wonderful talent on both swing style rhythm guitar and his incredible touch on a steel guitar. A true professional and a class act.
