Thanks to Fred Shannon for acknowledging those who seldom get recognition they rightfuly deserve. Fred's "Who Is This Player" always gets my attention, and Fred is very kind to those he admires and tries to put in the limelight. Someone ought to do a Fred Shannon Tribute for an appreciation for Fred he deserves a public THANK YOU so I'll start by saying THANK YOU FRED SHANNON.
You are a fine man Fred and Thank you for the nice things you wrote about me and Gene and Roy and Doc...we all appreciate it.
Sometimes its nice to get a "slap on the back
rather than a "slap in the face" Thank You.

100% agree!!!
I registered on the forum a couple of weeks ago and received a very nice and personal e-mail from Fred, it really made me feel at home from the first minute!
Let me take the opportunity and wish Fred and his family, as well as you, Jody, and all the other forumites, a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2004!

And I also enjoy them !! I found out a lot of things about the folks he's already covered and throughly enjoyed myself reading them. He does an excellent job of writing and getting the perfect settings for each subject. Carry on, Fred !!

Tribute?...My tribute is given to me each morning the Great One allows me to place both feet on the floor, and rise to the day. I thoroughly enjoy writing the pieces, and I must frankly tell you the most difficult part is getting the guys to give me the info you see on the Forum. I don't know if it's an immense amount of modesty, a characteristic trait not generally found in steel players, or they're hiding from someone.
I just think it's pertinent that players who have given so much to the instrument are recognized for their efforts. Nearly everyone is aware of the history of the "PROs". (Notice the CAPS, because I respect them highly), but there are those individuals who have promoted the instrument in their past history and those folks should not be neglected. Further, some of the younger players, those born in the 70's and later have missed the embryonic stage of the pedal steel. They need to know those individuals that helped our present instrument evolve.
My pleasure and I will continue as long as folks like it and b0b is patient enough not to kick my butt off.
