Who played steel on Linda Rhonstat's version on Blue Byou?

I think it was Dan Dugmore.

He still records with the same Sho-Bud Pro-II
that he used on that record. Dan is one of the reasons I play a big bodied Sho-Bud Professional today. He's still going strong. Dan's played on a ton of great recordings, but Blue Bayou stands out to me as one of the best steel recordings ever. Great tasteful backup, and a memorable, singable solo that's a mini composition of it's own, yet compliments the song and vocal perfectly. It just don't get better than that.

Gheesh.. All this time I thought it was Dan Dugmore

One of the greatest multi Instrument Utility players out there , in fact, he may have defined Utility player ..I have always considered Dan one of the top dawgs..He played the songs, low profile, but the songs he played on had dramatic influence on many if not all of us.

Good to hear is name mentioned here..

I would lump Dan's break on "Blue Bayou" with "Together Again", "Night Life", "One's on the Way', "We Could", "Next to Jimmy" and "Look at Us".

These classics are, IMO, the all time greatest breaks ever recorded on our beloved instrument.

We are truly blessed to have been able to hear such awesome creativity by the above players. And Dan is truly one of the unsung heroes of the steel guitar. And when he smiles he brings joy to many.

I was in Sherlock Holmes pub tuesday night after our gig, and the video for Blue Bayou came on the vh1 classics big screen... a live in concert version... I got up close to the screen for the steel solo, and a couple of the patrons called out "Hey who is that?"

"Dan Dugmore"

and it was a great solo.... almost note for note the studio recorded one...yet "live" on that ole 'Bud

Don, Dan has just put out a CD entitled "The
Off White Album", Songs of the Beatles. It is etherial. If you want to hear the soul of Dan Dugmore this is it. He did it over the space of a year in his private studio on his farm. He plays ALL the instruments. This is a beautiful instrumental album recorded on his LDG Sho-Bud. If anyone would like a copy please email me. I promised Dan that I would help him with this. I play it in my shop when I am working.
