You know you're a steel fan when you pick up the JLo pinup issue of Esquire and read the review of Robert Randolph's CD. (This could turn into a major thread, like you know you're a redneck when...)

You know you are a PSG fan when you cancel all of your weekend playing jobs so you can fly or drive somewhere to a PSG show and spend two or three times as much as you would have made playing, just to listen to someone else play a 45 minute set that they probably didn't get paid for doing!

You know you are a pedal steel fan when you spend all your discretionary income on steel guitars and amps yet you only play an occassional paying gig, and it typically only pays enough for a new set of strings.
...when you have one or more entire rooms of your house devoted to steel guitars.
...when your purchase of a new vehicle is based on how well it holds your steel guitar and associated gear.
...you cancell plans to go hear a famous group when you discover there wont be a steel player with them.
...you feel naked if there is no steel bar and no finger picks in your pocket.
...you purchase shoes based on whether they will work well with your pedal steel.
...you've been practicing hours a day for years and still sound like crap.
...you can't buy basic necessities like strings or bars at any music store within a days drive.
...your options for music stores worth checking out are only 4 or 5 stores in the whole country.
...at most of your gigs someone asks what that thing is, or makes a guess that is laughable.
...when someone asks how long it takes to learn to play one of those things, you say you don't know but will let them know when you find out.
[This message was edited by David Doggett on 11 November 2003 at 12:09 PM.]

Thats PRICELESS...When you stop in the isle at the grocery store to listen to Blue Bayou.
Or you tell your wife to quit talking while you're listening to the orchestral version of "Pass me By" or "Teach Your Children" while on hold with the gas company.

I'm with Joe Henry on this one
When your choice of music stores are limited to those in other countrys,
but the ones you get stuff from are on another continent!
And no one makes part for your instrument on your continent.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 11 November 2003 at 03:27 PM.]
