Here's another for you - recording session, 1968, Lloyd Green on steel, Dicky Overby came in and did steel on 2 numbers while Lloyd played rythym guitar. Who was the artist??

Doc Martin was in Springfield, Mo. in the late 50's and I think he might have played steel on Red Foleys Ozark Jubilee some of the shows. Doc put the first pedal on my Fender Deluxe by routing out the bottom and putting a plunger up thru the keyhead under the B and and Ab strings so I could play "Slowly" and "The Waltz You Saved For Me" like Bud Izaacs. (If we are talking about the same "Doc" Martin.

Don't know if Don was married to Anita Carter or not, or if indeed it is the same person.
The one thing all 4 of these gentlemen have in common was that they all played steel on some of Porter Wagoners' early recordings. Hope to have clips of them on the Rebel™, Ricky and Jeff site in the near future.
The 2 songs with Lloyd playing rythym guitar and Dickie Overby on steel recorded by Darrell McCall were never publically released

I was glad someone mentioned Anita Carter..
She was my favorite of all the carter sister.I think I was about 15 when we used to listen to the Carters with Chet Atkins on Guitar.They came to us from some station in the Ozarks.( KMOX ) maybe? I think it was Springfield Mo. and they were on early in the morning, about eight I think.

| Doc Martin was probably the first pedal steel player I heard while growing up here in the Ozarks. I think the only singing I ever heard him do was "Smoke, Smoke , Smoke that cigarette". He was tall, with a small black mustache, and had a deep masculine voice, as I recall. |

I don't know where this thread was going, but Bud Charlton also did an album in the late 50's with Porter which included Curly Harris, a very funny man, and Norma Jean.
Charlton is remembered on that album for an unusual interlude on "Family Bible"

Willis,
Chet Atkins and the Carters, along with Porter, Don Warden, and Red ______ ,Porter's bass player, were on the roster of radio station KWTO in Springfield during the 50's. There were many country music acts based in Springfield during those years.
