hi everybody,
would like to here if anybody knows a steel player from illinios "don kates". he played here in illinios in the mid's 80's to mid 90's he taught me on steel
if any info on him let me know what bands he play with

I lived in Springfield, Il., from '77 to '80 and Don Cates helped me out with lessons and tips a couple of times. His playing was a lot more advanced than mine - he was a total Chalker enthusiast and could really play some stuff - but he was as helpful and patient as could be.
I lost track of him in the late '70s but I've always been grateful for his help and interest. He certainly had the chops to land an artist gig, tho I don't know if he ever did. So if you're out there reading this, thanks, Don, and check in and catch us up.

hi mark,
thanks for your info on don cates. i took lessons from him here when he lived in zion,ill. all most bought his m.s.a vintange
d-10 xl. he then got a j.c.h d-10.i last played with him on guitar in 1995.with the band head'en south band. he quit playing a year after that and now lives in south chicago doing cabnet work. he does have a web site. here is his email don@dandrewkates.com
