I heard some wonderful steel players over the
weekend in St. Louis all of which deserve praise but I was knocked out with Hal's set.
He showed his ability on both necks, especially on C6th. He also has a humble stage presence and great respect for his fellow band members that left me with great
respect for the man. Thanks Hal for the set.

Chuck..
You are so right! Hal never sounded better than he did at the ISGC. He told me that he had just gotten his new Zum and it has the Jerry Wallace TruTone pickups. What a beautiful guitar, and the sound is second to none!! And we all know that Hal can play like only Hal can play, and that is TERRIFIC!

Yes, Hal Rugg , a fine musician! Great Steel Guitarist!

I was attending the one week teachers course given by Jeff Newman in 1977 in Nashville. Hal Rugg was the featured Thursday night Artist.

He played several tunes and explained about his bottom neck tuning which was E6 with his own special pulls.

Then he played a Jazz Version of "All the Things You Are", that just blew me away.

I have played that song, But NEVER like THAT! WOW! I almost decided right then after 40 years of playing steel guitar, I had better quit playing Professionally........al

I always look forward to Hal's set for all of the reasons mentioned. He is such a pro and so gracious with the audience and band members.

He's the one most often mentioned by the pros for being willing to share his knowledge and experience. Jeff Newman always talks about this. And check out the interview in the latest N.G.S.T.A. Newsletter. There you can learn how gracious Hal was in welcoming Weldon to The Opry all those years ago.

I've got Hal's "Slidin' For Scale" and "Finally" CD's. I loaned them to a friend and he just had to have one. I aimed at HalRugg.com and a week or so later he showed up at my office beaming with his own copy. Now I have to invite him to a local show where Hal is appearing so he can check out the real deal. (I think Hal is at Fairborn, OH and Lexington, KY soon.)
