Greetings once again fellow Forumites From Austin, Texas! I arrived Friday afternoon, and spent several hours driving in circles lost in Austin. Finding the Continental Club by accident I was able to look at the chalkboard and see the schedule for the upcoming dates and I also obtained a copy of the Austin Chronicle wich has listing of all the venues and time and event infomation. After I settled into my hotel I went strait to the "Broken Spoke". Herb was terrific and I thoughly enjoyed the whole experience. Saturday I was blown away when I cought Redd's show at the Continental Club. Being a Tele picker myself, there is no place I would have rather been Saturday afternoon at 3pm. With Jim Murphy on steel I am very glad I made the stop in Austin to see such talent. The music sounds so much better in Texas, must be the humidity. HaHa! Alrighty, I'm off to the Cotton club in Granger to try a few of those guitar licks I stole from Redd yesterday. I learned a lot from Redd. Mostly I learned I should walk down to the river here in town and chuck my guitar right in it. HaHaHa!

Jim, my son and daughter both live in Austin. My wife and I met them there yesterday at the Continental Club to hear Redd and the group play. I agree with you, What a band!! Redd, Billy Dee the bass palyer, Jim Murphy on steel, and the drummer, from Asleep at the Wheel, (can't remember his name) are all definitely stars in his own right. I will be back!!
Redd played a request for my wife, one of my favorite old Ray Price tunes, Somewhere out in Texas, during his last set, and I bought his cd to listen to on my way home last night. Have about decided to put my Tele and Mullen up for sale and just be a spectator in the future. It was that much fun!!

I made it! I left Austin at 2am Monday and made it to DeFuniak Springs, FL by 3pm. I did have to stop for a 2 hour nap. I have been all over the U.S. and Texas has some of the nicest folks on the planet. I truly had a blast during my visit. The Cotton Club Jam was definatly a highlight. There I was in the the great state of Texas, sharing a stage with some of the best pickers in the biz. I think I left my heart in Texas, and not with the blonde waitress either. I'm in love with good Music. HaHa!
