Dalls Fort Worth Tonite!

Hey all,
I'm out here in Dallas-Fort Worth Area visiting the kin.
I was wondering if you've heard of any good jams or concerts going on.
Here's what I like: Honky Tonk, Derailers, Johnny Cash, Wynn Stewart, The Reverend Horton Heat...
What I don't like: POP country, Dolly Parton or the Dixie Chicks.
Where's all the good music stores out here? I been to 2 in Garland and ran into nothing but rude service. They don't like you trying out their acoustic guitars or steels. If you are going to shell out 3,000.00 plus dollars for a guitar then I would say let the customer try it!

I'm playing Friday and Saturday this week at the Texas Star in the Garland area. It's your neighborhood bar kind of place, with no cover charge.

We do a lot of Merle Haggard, Derailers, and Honky Tonk tunes, plus some old rock and roll and even Stevie Ray Vaughan, depending on the crowd. You definitely won't hear any pop country, and none of us hairy legged boys wear our jeans tight enough to sing those girlie songs. Image

We play from 9-2 both nights, and the address is 10260 Ferguson. Take LBJ (635) to the Centerville-Ferguson exit, turn south on Ferguson to Gus Thomasson (about 4 lights) club is on S.E. corner (left hand side). Their phone number is 214-327-9944 if you need directions.

Please come up and introduce yourself if you come out, I'd like to meet you. Image

Here's a good site for what's happening around here, and in other parts of the state. Under "Main Menu" click on "Concert Central"..

As you can see, Redd Volkaert will be at Big Balls tonight. Derailers in Dallas next Fri & Ft. Worth next Sat....

Cornell Hurd (With the Herbster I'm sure, as well as Justin Trevino on Bass probably) at Sons of Hermann, in D, tomorrow (sat) which would be a way cool show. Apparently a CD release type thing. If you've never seen them live, it's a heck of a treat.

Jim Snider with Gary Carpenter will be at the Finish Line tonight (West Ft. worth)...

You can also see Junior at Cowboy's Red River (I think he's still playing it), but it'll be "top 40 country".....great band though and the steeler ain't to shabby Image

Jim, who you pickin with??

Melinda,

You should slip on over to Mesquite and visit with the "Carter" folks... I bet they wouldn't mind if you played on one of their guitars. ;-)

Respectfully,

Melinda....I play every Friday and Saturday evening at the Country Music Theater which is in Arlington between Dallas and Ft.Worth not far from 6 Flags amusement park at the corner of Division and Center street.

Its a family show, and you could be out in time to go to most any club to hear some great players. We play from 7:30 to about 9:45

Hope you enjoy your stay in the area.

Forgot about that Reece. Melinda, they've got some incredible players on that show...... And he's right about the time. They're just a few blocks form I30 in Arlington, smack in the middle of the Metroplex. From there you have plenty of time to see other bands after their show. Most clubs close at 2am.......you're 15 min from D or FTW....

If you're over that way on Wednesday, check out Ed Burleson at Love and War in Plano (i think it's in plano). He plays original, old timey style honky tonk dance music. Jim Austin on steel is an absolute treat, especially when he breaks out the Match-Bro and leans on that lap steel.

Will Maurice Anderson be playing in Arlington tomorrow night, June 14? Is there a side in the theater which is closer to him where you can watch and hear better?

Thanks,

Melinda ... I know you wrote this originally back in March and I'm sure you've returned home since then.

However, when are back in our area, you are cordially invited to visit us at the Carter Showroom where you may indeed try out the steels we have on the floor. Mesquite is just next to Garland and Dallas.

We look forward to meeting you next time you are visiting your kin.

Map to the Carter Factory and Showroom

Invitation to anyone else in our area: we still have the Prototype of the soon-to-be-released Peavey Nashville 112 amplifier and the new Goodrich LDR no-pot pedal, which you are welcome to come in and try out, as well.
