Splendid: I'm always really impressed whenever I see anyone who hasn't been playing it for at least ten years who's willing to play it in public at all, 'cos it's kind of a terrifying instrument to me.

Jon Rauhouse: Well, I was drinkin' kinda heavy back then... (laughs) and not making a lot of the greatest decisions, but that was a good decision, I think.

I saw Jon with the much-discussed Neko Case here in New York last summer. What you don't get from that article is the guy also plays banjo, Weissenborn steel, and six-string, I think he might have even picked some mandolin that night. He was grabbing a different instrument for every song. His tone and playing on the Weissenborn were amazing; his steel approach? Too distorted for my taste, but hey, the man plays with some real passion really digs in and gives it his all. And last time I checked I haven't played the Bowery Ballroom in almost three years, so he wins. Right Bob? Thanks for link, I'd always wondered who he was.

10 years? I'll be happy when I make it to 10 months.
