I think almost all of those things are synched. You've got a lot of stage, people, and gear getting thrown together in like 10 minutes-and there's no way everything gets hooked up fast enough to go live. And you REALLY don't want to take a chance with the Anthem. With a billion people watching, you don't need to suddenly get no mics working at the last minute, or screeching feedback, or some other live TV type horror. Just look at the problems the reporters have doing spots live from the field-and they've had weeks to set up and do this stuff every day! My guess is the artists would rather go live-but I think logistically it's too dicey for the suits and techs. And I'm sure some artists just don't care-as long as the tune gets heard man...
