It's also available from the Forum catalog, by the way.

Hopefully this will be my last post to the forum this evening . I do need to sleep.

Many thanks for the kind words concerning the Steel Summit tape. I produced this tape a few years ago as a tribute to some of the greatest men I've ever known. These four gentlemen had a heck of alot to do with the evolution of the instrument.I thought this would be a great way to recognize their achievements and make them a little extra money. Unfortunately this video has not sold well at all. There are probably more than a few reasons for this. One being that I don't constantly advertise.(I'm not in the video biz per say.)Also it's not a hot lick video. This is an informal round table discussion with four legends. They are telling it like it was. I hope everyone gets an opportunity to see this thing. Once they are gone they'll probably be gone. The majority of the money goes to these guys so believe me it ain't about me. Trust me , I've hardly re-couped the cost. It is very high quality video.
Conversely the Tommy White hot licks video has done relatively well. I filmed them the same day to try to keep production costs in line.
Happy New Year

People complain that history of the steel is not being documented/immortalized, and this is right under their noses.

This is a must-have product--a well thought out, high quality production, too. Thanks, Bruce...

I don't buy many courses or videos, in general, but the two products discussed here are among the best I've seen. I wholeheartedly recommend the "Steel Summit" tapes for their historical value. The Tommy White tape would be worth it if that tune he plays for the intro of the tape was all there was. It uses the 9th string root position with A+B or B+C for a Maj7 with a voicing reminiscent of C6. TOO COOL. He could put out another tape that dissects that tune (not sure what it is -- does anyone know? -- Tommy????) and I'd be first in line to buy it.

We've GOTTA support folks like Bruce who feel the obligation to document some of this stuff.

I don't know Bruce's total figures, of course, but the Forum has sold 21 copies of this video set, compared with 29 copies of the Tommy White video. That ratio has always surprised me, because the Tommy White video is only one tape and it costs more.

I guess people are more interested in licks than they are in history.

Larry,

Re: Tommy White's E9 Video. I still work on a lot of licks on that tape, mainly cause I can't play'em! And yes, I love the intro and outro too. I worked out bits and pieces of both. Love to hear what you have.

cheers,
Drew

I don't know, of course, but that 'intro' tune of Tommy's just sounds like 'stream of conscious' stuff to me - that guy has so much available to him, I really think he just went for it, starting with that main 'theme' that does kind-of fall under the fingers, as it were. There's a quote from 'Fly Me To The Moon', which quickly morphs into something else, then he's off and running.

It's marvelous - and really illustrates what can be done with that 9th string at the root. Great music, Tommy!
