I just got home from seeing Robert Randolf and the Family Band play at the Canopy Club in Champaign/Urbana Illinois. The venue is on the U of I campus and they have a lot of "Jam Bands" play there. It was a packed house and Robert Randolf is an incredible Rock n'Roll Steel player and a great entertainer! He is a very soulful player and he plays on the edge, which is the way I like to hear R&R. It was in your face from the first note. If you like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Duane Allman, I highly recommend checking out his act when he comes to your town. |

My girlfriend saw him the next night in WI opening for another act. She said he was awsome but the young crowd just didn't get it. I can't wait for the oportunity to check him out. She also said the bass player was purty dang good. What did you think?

Steve, the whole band was great but I have to admit that the bass player stood out more than the rest of them. He had a 5 peice band consisting of Steel, Guitar , Hamond B3, Bass and Drums. The only time the other players in the band got to play any solos was when he introduced them. I would have liked to hear more from the other instruments, but Robert Randolf played with so much enthusiasm that it never got boring. I dug the concert from the first note to the last. |
