Looking for Larry Campbell

Post by Harold Jack Baker »

Larry used to play in Calumet city, Ill. He played steel for Buddy Emmons singing in a jam session after a Ray Price show in Chicago. Larry couldn't be stumped on any song that I ever heard asked of him. He played in Calumet City for years then dissapeared. I'd sure like to hear from him one more time before it's too late for either of us. Im 74 and he must be close to that. "Texas Jack" Baker Sho-Bud pro, Fender telecaster & vocal for 60+ years

I knew Larry in the early-mid 1970's when he and played at the 'Bar X' on State Street in Cal City. He has since gone on and is buried in southern Illinois, at his hometown (Gillespie?) I believe.

I should know you Russ but my memory at 74 is spotty at best. We played with so many good guys there and had such good times. EWhen I worked with Larry I played rythem and sang or played drums or bass when we found a singer. Do you remember Jake Pitts?

I'm really sorry to hear that Larry has passed on. He was truly a great steel man and all around good guy. He had a pretty good deal with Myrtle. "Texas Jack" Baker
