What's your preference of G maj, vs A maj on a tricone? Why?

| I prefer A...the higher pitch sounds a bit more "Hawaiian" to me. I use E, C#, A, E, C#, A, which is pretty standard. It's also what Brother Oswald used. His tremelos on the high register still make my spine shiver when I hear his records! |

I also use the A high bass tuning. That is the original tuning I learned on 50 yrs. ago and I'm too old to switch now. I agree, it gives a nice "Hawaiian" sound to dobro or tri-cone.
P.S. I just picked up a Wild Rose model Regal tricone. I plan to put a Highlander tri-cone pickup on it.

What size is the resonator on the tricone?
I am looking for a small resonator for a project and was wondering. And also if anything the same size is still made?

I'm away from my tricone right now, but as I recall the cones are 6" in diameter.
National R-p sells them in sets of three. |

Thanks guys that's usefull info.
A good size for my purposes.
Now if I could get just one I would be in good shape, three is too many. No rush , but if one comes up...

I use A High bass tunnin. Like you said it sounds more hawaiian. I think it's a great tunnin when somebody starts to play and with a little added you have A6 (or B11) which it's the tunnin I use on the steel and wich offers the same posibilities than C6 or E13.
In my opinion on the steel guitar ( resonators, dobro, lap...) nobody has used the A tunin like the genial hawaiian Bob K. ( from Jim & Bob). Sometimes it's hard to believe that he's using a simple A tunin. Of course, like Jeff said the great Oswald it's another exponent of this tuninn on the Dobro.

David,
I have 3 cones that are 1927. The holes in the centers of the cones are worn and enlarged from years of playing.
I replaced them with new ones from National early this year.
I can send you one or two or three. I have no use for them.
