Heard this new commercial yesterday. I'm not a beer drinker, but I sure enjoyed this steel playing. Who is this?

Well I've been cutting on a whole slu of commercials this last year...and two of them were Lonestar beer commercials...but I'd have to hear it...as there were about 10 versions cut and don't know which one passed....ha...

Over twenty years ago I recorded on a commercial for Lone Star Beer. I wasn't playing steel, I picked the banjo. Now having said that, please keep your bottles and tomatoes to 'yo self!

Michelin also has a new commerical that features a very up-front pedal steel. I seen it play during todays football game (the Broncos WON!).

Fellas,

I've gotta assume that the steel guitar playing on the Lone Star Beer commercial is certainly more tasteful and of much better quality than the actual beer itself. Official state beverage status (or whatever) notwithstanding, you Texans must be some tough people to be able to stomach that Lone Star beer on a continuing basis! I had one bottle years ago and that was enough for me, I'm from Michigan.

By the way, that's a fellow Michigan steel guitar player on the Michelin ad (read the post). Turns out he had to take the Michelin gig because beer commercials in Michigan still have Bavarian (barbarian?) oompah band music in the background, yah. I guess it's hard to fit that steel guitar sound in there with that loud concertina and tuba. But the beer is good.

Does Lone Star taste any different than Busch or Budweizer?

Nick,

Probably about as "good" as Busch or Blatz, not any better but slightly different as I recall. Not as good as Budweiser!

We used to get REALLY good local beer here in Michigan, like Frankenmuth Dark for one example. And we could get Cinci, Hamms, and others that weren't technically local but were good. We had a few lousy brands as well, stuff that even most Texans probably wouldn't drink.

But I guess this is supposed to be about steel guitar used on commercials, not beer, huh? Sorry about the detour. So anyway, onward and upward.
