I just looked at the Saturday afternoon line up for the ISGC. This will be something to see. I sure wish I could be there.
(I'm going to venture a guess that Johnny Farina is going to be inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame)

Perhaps Johnny is accepting for "Santo and Johnny". The last I heard Santo is still in Italy and won't budge for love nor money. |

That whole line up is fantastic! I've heard both ways which one of the brothers was actually playing on the recording of Sleepwalk. I remember them playing on the Ed Sullivan Show, but that's a long time ago.
Saturday we'll know for sure.

George, you should have attended!
Just do it next time...life is too short.
Johnny Farina never attended ISGC show before...I don't think he ever attended a steel show from the sound of his comments, but he acknowledged his awe of "real" steel players.
He only played three songs (Pipeline, Ebb Tide and of course, Sleepwalk).
I heard it was Santo who played the steel originally but, believe me, you couldn't tell the difference....it was the real thing! (All single string notes..no harmony)
He was a little out of his element, he usually performs at Oldies reunion type shows, not steel shows, but it was a real treat to see and hear this guy! |
