I'm happy to report that one of the acts at our Edmonton Folk Music Festival this past weekend was Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys featuring Jimmy Roy playing some mighty fine steel on his D-8 Sho-Bud (this guitar was one of the earliest Sho-Buds built by Buddy Emmons and was originally owned by Ben Keith).

The tone of this instrument is really sweet (Jimmy was using a reissue Fender Bassman), and, in addition to having great chops, Jimmy is a super nice guy; he was doing some wonderful stuff esp. twin leads with Ashley Kingman on guitar.

Check these guys out if they’re touring near you.
