I spent two days at the NAMM show in Nashville courtesy of a local music store. I was amazed at all the different vendors and the different wares available for the music industry. This show is not in any way slanted or geared towards steel guitar, just the music industry as a whole. The only familiar names showing were Carter, Sierra, George L, John Pearse and Peavey. It was interesting to say the least but the upside was those who were in attendance such as the Internationally World Famous Smiley Roberts, Bob Knight, Russ Hicks, Buddy Emmons, John Fabian, Billy Phelps, Joe Wright, David Wright, John & Jean Hughey, Bill Stroud (BJS Bars), Rick Johnson, Chris Bauer, Derrik Duplassie, Hoot Hester, Jeff Peterson, Bruce Bouton, David Spires and hundreds (YES, I mean HUNDREDS) of breast augmentations! The enjoyment is always Broadway. Several bands with steel guitars constantly play lower Broad and Saturday evening we were all treated to John Hughey playing behind Mike Siler at Legends. I'm not sure it is an event that I want to go back to but it certainly allowed for a fun filled weekend. If I left any names out of the aboved mentioned, it is totally unintentional and caused from brain dead cells due to alcohol poisoning. |

I,second everything Mike said....
Thanks to a fellow forumn member, I was able to get a pass to the show. Watched David and Joe Wright demo the "Sierra" PSG. As I was makin' a fool of myself by looking underneath the axe, up walks the big "E". This guy is "CLASS" !! While we couldn't talk him into sittin' down and pickin' a few notes, he accepted photo opts and was patient with us and our questions. Talked to David Spires for a few minutes, and realized just how busy and professional this man is. This guy goes in 25 different directions at a time.
Stayed for about 4 hours and O.D.ed on the new stuff and lefted more than a few dollars on stuff I may never need.
I looked for a "Hilton" Volumne pedal booth but didn't find one. In fact, even in the "Peavey" booth, didn't see the "Nashville 1000" amp. They had lots of goodies, amps and stuff tho.
The only reason I left is: I run out of money and got very hungry !!

Hey Mike
Did you stop by the Fender booth?? If you did
you should have mentioned my name, they would have given you your pick...anything...
Thin, Medium, Heavy, Thats the "new Fender".
Im from the old Fender,,everyone got a "T" shirt. Did you see the suits?....
Im dreaming of the old Fender,,just like the one's I used to know,,where the guitars glistened and Fender listened,, cause only ole Leo ran the show. Different ballgame now...grab a bat. edited for incorrect pick selections. & I think I need a new writer,,,,your'e Fired Smiley.[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 23 July 2002 at 04:22 AM.] |

Mike,
Sure was good to finally meet you at
NAMM. Someone wanted to know if you were
Jim Ed Brown. ha
Having Jason take my picture with Buddy
Emmons was the highlight of the trip.
Hearing Johnny Hiland on the Telecaster
really great. Where I come from we would
say "He's a bad cat to track"
