Has anybody been through the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum lately - if so, did you notice if Shot Jackson's ShoBro is on display?

Greg,
This is the last communiqué that I have w/ this ONGOING PROBLEM!! This is dated, 02/13/02.
=============================================
Dear Smiley,
Thank you for message. The Sho-Bro is available to the public as I will be happy to show it to anyone who wants to contact me and make an appointment. It will certainly be on exhibit again, but right now I do not have a specific date. It has been included in educational presentations of various types of instruments and their players and stories.
Shot Jackson, his Sho-Bro, and Sho-Bud guitars is definitely a great story that the Hall of Fame wants to continue to tell.
Sincerely yours,
Mark Medley

Might it help if everyone that can get to the HOF makes an appointment to see it?
If there's enough interest they might consider keeping it in public. |

I think it is a digrace to what we tried to do and to what we were told, it was going to be an on going display. It seems that the peaple at the Hall of Fame are just like the rest of the big companys in Nashville, they don't know how to be honest. I drive tour bus and I go through Nashville alot, and one of my stops is not the Hall of Fame just for this reason. I tell the peaple on my bus just this reason. If Mark wants to play this game, then we need to answer back. Terry |

Since this is the "tourist season" for NashVILE,I think we need to flood them w/ requests to see it. If everyone, that's coming to town, will do this,we might be able to force them to dislay it permanently. But,if you make a appointment,PLEASE KEEP IT!!

Smiles, thanks for the update, and yeah, that's a great idea about everybody that's able contacting them and making an appointment - I made the assumption that with all that increased square footage in the new HOF there'd be room for the ShoBro to be permanently displayed...

Kenny, I appreciate your sentiment, but it would probably do more if you found a way to let the HOF know that you're not coming and that's the only reason. Otherwise, it won't have any effect on them.
So,... I guess there are two strategies: one is to make an appointment to see it (and Keep It), and the other is to boycott and TELL them the reason why.
I would think the NTSGA might want to take this up as a cause celebre. How about getting the reporters who carried the story initially, with all the donors, and the Forum, etc. as a "human interest" story, to do an "update" on whatever became of the Shot Jackson Sho~Bro? It would definitely look bad for the HOF if the papers ran an update saying how all of the donors and supporters had been screwed. How about getting Eddie Stubbs interested in the story? What do you say, NTSGA? How 'bout a little political action?[This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 14 July 2002 at 09:40 PM.] |

BTW:
My letter to Marty Stuart about it all went unanswered. Well, at least we tried.
I'll never, never, get over just how dishonest they were about the deal. I recall how happy I was when they said it would "always be on display" (and so was Shot's family for that matter).
Other direct quotes:
"No, it will never be just stored in some back room somewhere."
"How pleased we are to have such a wonderful gift."
What a mess. I feel so bad about the whole thing.

I had family in town so I took them to the
H O F. There is so much there that we don't see on display. I have a friend working there and was told that Chets entire guitar collection was there, boy how I'd like to see that. I did see one of Buddies steels though. I hope they can work these other items into some kind of rotation. Also found out that Bob Grammer,(Stonewalls steel player) does a steel guitar demonstration there. |

This isn't specifically a question about Shot's personal Sho-Bro, but rather a general question about the Sho-Bro.
My girlfriend has a 7-string Sho-Bro she bought at Scotty's 30+ years ago. It was one of the "Gretsch" models, and had the problem of the headstock laminate causing the tuning keys to rust. The laminate was removed and replaced with a plain solid-color laminate with no logo whatsoever.
Does anyone know how many of the 7-string Sho-Bros were made? Did all of them say "Gretsch"? Is there any kind of a decal or logo of some sort we can put on the replacement headstock laminate to identify it as a Sho-Bro? Any ideas as to what it's worth (not that we'd ever sell it!).
Thanks,
Mike

I just realized that my post probably really belongs in the "No Peddlers" section, because it's a question about the Sho-Bro, not Shot.
Sorry 'bout that, Chief!

A guy in my hometown brought a 7-string Sho Bro by my house for me to see. It was in mint condition and had the initials PK in pearl inlay on the head stock. Was made in Nashville according to the guy who owned it. Not sure how many were made. |
